About Tree-Frog Phil
Phil's Story
Phil's journey in the tree industry began at just 16 years of age. After completing his Forestry Certificate in Nelson, he worked with several logging crews before returning to Southland to build valuable experience in contract silviculture, carrying out tree pruning, planting and forest maintenance.
Over the years, Phil explored a variety of interests, including completing a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at the Southern Institute of Technology. However, his passion for working outdoors and caring for trees always remained. In 2015 Phil moved to Masterton, where he continued working in silviculture and spent a couple of seasons planting Mānuka trees for the beekeeping industry.
2017 Phil relocated to Wellington, beginning his career as an arborist trainee in Karori.
Over the following seven years, Phil developed his arboriculture skills while working with Wellington's diverse tree species, steep terrain and demanding weather conditions. This extensive experience gave him the knowledge and confidence to safely tackle everything from delicate pruning work to complex tree removals.
In September 2025, Phil returned home to Invercargill and has since established his business Tree-Frog Phil.
