About Tree-Frog Phil
Phil's Story
Phil has worked with trees most of his life. After completing a Certificate in Forestry at age 16, Phil worked in southland pruning and planting pine forests.
After 2 years of this contract work, Phil took a break from the trees to try some other job options and up-skill.
This lead to him gaining a number of qualifications (in particular, a 4-year Bachelor's Degree in music), although none of them overly relevant to his tree career!
After finishing this academic stint in 2013, Phil returned to doing contract silviculture (planting, pruning and tree felling) to pay off his studies.
This lead Phil to looking at greener pastures in the Wairarapa, where he moved in 2015 and started workig for Wairarapa Forestry Services. As this crew was heavily involved in fighting forest fires in the drier months, Phil also ended up training as a rural fire fighter, and gaining a few more qualifications.
In 2017, Phil moved to Wellington for a change of scene and began working with an arborist service in Karori, Wellington. This is where Phil's love of professional tree climbing really began.
My Life Story..
After several years battling Wellington's vegetation, Phil returned to Invercargill in 2025. He has since started his own tree business to help with the growing need for tree services.
